Direct answer: The best Twilio WhatsApp alternative depends on why you're leaving. For the same API at a lower fee, try Meta's Cloud API direct (no platform fee), 360dialog (€49 per number a month) or Gupshup's API ($0.001 per message). For a ready inbox, chatbots and campaigns without code, try Mark360 (free plan; Scale $19 a month billed quarterly), AiSensy, Wati or Interakt. Twilio charges $0.005 per message, in or out, plus Meta's fees.
Key takeaways
- Twilio charges $0.005 per WhatsApp message, inbound or outbound, plus Meta's per-message fees and $0.001 for each failed message.
- Every official provider passes on Meta's charges. What changes between alternatives is the platform fee and what you get for it.
- API-first alternatives (Meta's Cloud API direct, 360dialog, Gupshup's self-serve API) cut the platform fee, but you still build the inbox, bots and campaign screens.
- No-code platforms (Mark360, AiSensy, Wati, Interakt) charge a monthly plan and include a team inbox, templates and chatbots.
- You can move a live number. Meta's migration carries over the display name, quality rating, messaging limit and eligible approved templates.
- Switching doesn't mean giving up code. Mark360 has API tokens and webhooks, and Twilio stays in its integration catalog for SMS jobs.

Why teams look for a Twilio WhatsApp alternative
Twilio WhatsApp works well when developers are building WhatsApp into their own product. The trouble starts when WhatsApp becomes a sales or support channel. Here's what usually pushes teams to look elsewhere:
- You pay on both directions. Twilio's fee is per message, inbound or outbound. A busy support number pays when customers write in, too.
- You still have to build the rest. A Twilio WhatsApp integration still needs somewhere for agents to reply, a way to submit templates, an opt-in list and a bill your finance team can read. Our Mark360 vs Twilio comparison walks through each of these.
- Extras cost extra. Link shortening, click tracking and message scheduling are part of Twilio's Messaging Engagement Suite add-on, at $0.015 per message after the first 1,000 each month.
- Billing is in US dollars. Many Indian teams would rather pay a rupee plan and top up credits by UPI.
Sometimes staying is the right call. If WhatsApp is just one channel inside a system your team already runs on Twilio, moving may not be worth it.
Twilio WhatsApp pricing in 2026: what you actually pay
According to Twilio's WhatsApp pricing page ("pricing current as of September 2026"), a Twilio WhatsApp bill has three parts:
- Twilio's fee: $0.005 per message, inbound or outbound.
- Meta's fee: charged per message by category (marketing, utility, authentication, service) and by the recipient's country, then passed on to you by Twilio.
- Failed messages: $0.001 for each message that ends in a "Failed" status.
Here's a quick example using those fees. A support number gets 10,000 customer messages in a month and sends 10,000 replies. That's 20,000 × $0.005 = $100 in Twilio fees, before Meta's charges and before the cost of building and hosting your own agent inbox. On Meta's side, since 1 October 2026 each business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages a month, and Meta charges from the 1,001st. Twilio's own fee still applies to every message.
For a side-by-side of every provider's fees, including a worked India example, see our WhatsApp API pricing comparison.

Meta's fees vary by country and message category. Check each vendor's page for taxes.
1. Meta Cloud API direct
The cheapest option on paper: no platform fee, only Meta's per-message rates. But the Cloud API has no app of its own, so your team builds and runs the inbox, template tooling, opt-outs and reports. See Cloud API vs Business app vs a provider.
2. 360dialog
The closest like-for-like swap for developers: a flat €49 per number per month plus Meta's fees, with no per-message fee listed. Premium (€99) adds Inbox, Sendout and Automation add-ons. 360dialog and Mark360 are separate companies.
3. Gupshup
Two products. The self-serve API costs $0.001 per message plus Meta's fees. The CX platform adds campaigns, a bot studio and a multi-agent dashboard, and its page shows a limited-time offer of three months free. See our Gupshup alternatives.
4. Wati, 5. AiSensy and 6. Interakt
No-code platforms built around a shared inbox, broadcasts and chatbots, with rupee plans for Indian SMBs. Wati's Growth plan includes three users. AiSensy's Free Forever plan doesn't include broadcasting, and its chatbot flows are a paid add-on. Interakt shows plan fees in different currencies depending on where you view them. Compare them in our Wati, AiSensy and Interakt alternatives guides.
7. Mark360
A no-code WhatsApp and Instagram workspace that keeps an API for your developers. In India, ₹0.94 per marketing message and ₹0.138 per utility message are the total prices. There's no setup fee, and you top up prepaid credits through Razorpay or by bank transfer.

Cloud API direct vs Twilio vs a no-code platform
For most switchers, the real choice is between building the tools yourself and getting them ready-made:
| Meta Cloud API direct | Twilio | Mark360 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official WhatsApp Business Platform | Yes | Yes | Yes (Official Meta Business Partner) |
| Send from your code (API and webhooks) | Yes | Yes | Yes. Tokens with send_messages and send_templates, plus message and template webhooks |
| Platform fee | None | $0.005 per message, in or out | Free plan $0; Scale $19/month billed quarterly |
| Team inbox for agents | Build it yourself | Build it yourself | Yes. Unassigned, Mine, Pinned, Resolved |
| No-code chatbots and AI agents | Build it yourself | Build it yourself | Yes. Bot builder and AI agent templates |
"Build it yourself" means the WhatsApp API price doesn't include it. You build it or buy another product.

Migration checklist: moving your WhatsApp number off Twilio
A number that's already on the WhatsApp Business Platform can move to another provider without starting over. When you use Meta's migration flow, Twilio's migration docs say the display name, messaging limit tier, quality rating, Official Business Account status and message templates move with it. Work through these steps in order:
- Check ownership and access. Make sure your Meta Business Portfolio is active and verified, and that you're an admin on it.
- Meet Meta's requirements. The source WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) must be approved and have a valid payment method.
- Export your templates. List every template's name, category, language and text. According to 360dialog's migration docs, only templates that are approved with a green quality score are copied across. Meta re-checks their categories, so some may come back rejected, and template quality ratings start again as unknown.
- Turn off two-step verification on the number in WhatsApp Manager, or ask your current provider to do it.
- Choose a quiet hour. Pause scheduled sends and automations that send WhatsApp from Twilio during the switch.
- Register on the new provider. Sign up through the new provider's Meta sign-up flow and pick your existing Meta Business Portfolio.
- Update your code. Replace Twilio's Messaging API calls with the new provider's API and point your webhooks to it. In Mark360, create a token with the send_messages and/or send_templates scope, then subscribe to message and template webhooks.
- Test both directions. Check inbound and outbound messages, media, every template you depend on, and your opt-out keyword.
- Clean up. Once traffic is stable, remove the old sender from Twilio so nothing runs in two places.
Don't delete the number from Twilio and register it again from scratch, or you'll lose what the migration carries over. If your number is live on Twilio today, talk to us before you start.

Keep the API, add a no-code inbox and AI agents
Most developer-to-no-code switches end up as a hybrid. Here's how that works in Mark360:
- Your systems keep sending from code. Order updates, reminders and OTPs go out through an API token with the send_templates scope. Templates are created and submitted for Meta's approval in Mark360. The API sends approved templates and doesn't bypass Meta's review.
- Replies land in a team inbox instead of your logs. Agents work Unassigned, Mine, Pinned and Resolved views, with round-robin assignment and permissions for each agent. See our WhatsApp team inbox guide.
- AI agents answer first. Start from an AI agent template (appointment booking, lead qualification, order tracking or support), give it a knowledge base, and hand the chat to a person when it matters. More in our WhatsApp AI agent guide.
- Your systems stay in sync. Message and template webhooks tell your backend when a customer replies or a template's status changes.
- Twilio can stay for SMS. Twilio is one of the 12 apps in Mark360's integration catalog. You connect it with your Account SID, Auth Token and phone number, and workflows call it for SMS-style jobs.

Which Twilio WhatsApp alternative fits you?
- WhatsApp lives inside your own product: stay on Twilio, or go to the Cloud API direct.
- Developers who want a flat fee per number: 360dialog.
- Indian SMBs with no developers: compare rupee plans from Mark360, AiSensy, Wati and Interakt. Our plan comparison shows what each Mark360 plan includes.
- Developers handing WhatsApp to sales or support: a platform that keeps an API, such as Mark360.
One option to skip: "WhatsApp API" tools that automate WhatsApp Web instead of using Meta's official platform. They look cheap, but they put your number at risk of a ban. Our post on what's actually free on the WhatsApp API explains the difference, and our guide to why WhatsApp Business numbers get banned covers the warning signs.
