Utility template

Shipped with tracking number

Meta category: Utility

Utility templates confirm or update something the person already asked for: an order, a booking, an appointment, or a payment they owe on an existing invoice. A discount, a new product, or a 'while you are here' line moves the template into marketing.

A courier handover and a tracking number are post-purchase facts. The template is utility as long as the button opens tracking, not a collection page.

Template body

Hi {{1}}, order {{2}} has shipped with {{3}}. Tracking number {{4}}.

When to use it

Fire this from the shipping webhook when the first scan exists, not when the label is printed. A tracking link that 404s for six hours creates support tickets.

If you use more than one courier, {{3}} and {{4}} cover it. You do not need a template per carrier.

Tips for getting it approved

  • The sample AWB should be the length of a real one. 'ABC123' looks like a placeholder and gets questioned.
  • Do not write 'expected by tomorrow' unless a variable carries the courier's date.
  • The button domain in the sample should be the domain you will use in production.

Frequently asked questions

Can the button point at my own order page instead of the courier?

Yes, if that page shows the same tracking number. Say so in the button label, for example 'Track on our site', if it is not the courier's page.

What about orders with two couriers?

Do not cram both AWBs into this template. Use the split-shipment template for the second box.
